Hugh Lorie is best know for his role as House in the TV series by the same name, but he is also a Blues/Jazz performer signing with Warner Brothers Records in 2010. Hugh drives the whole album on piano and vocals and is joined in the studio by the ‘Queen of New Orleans’ herself, Irma Thomas, blues piano and horns supremo Allen Toussaint, vocal legend Sir Tom Jones and in an especially momentous collaboration on ‘After You’ve Gone’ by his lifelong hero Dr. John. James Hugh Calum Laurie, was born 11 June 1959 and is better known as Hugh Laurie, is an English actor, voice artist, comedian, writer, musician, recording artist, and director. He first became well known in the media as one half of the Fry and Laurie double act, along with his friend and comedy partner Stephen Fry, whom he joined in the cast of Blackadder and Jeeves and Wooster from 1987 until 1999. Since 2004, he has played Dr Gregory House, the protagonist of House, for which he received two Golden Globe awards, two Screen Actors Guild awards and several Emmy nominations. As of August 2010, Laurie is the highest paid actor in a drama series on US television.
His debut album, Let Them Talk was released in May 2011. The album, which consists of classic blues songs, was released on 9 May 2011
Some of the songs are collaborations with well known artists such as Tom Jones, Irma Thomas and Dr. John Laurie plays piano and guitar on the album in addition to providing lead vocals. Kevin Breit plays guitar and Vincent Henry plays saxophones. The album was produced by Joe Henry and features horn arrangements by Allen Toussaint.
Laurie premiered some of the songs in a small New Orleans club in March 2011 In the UK, he performed at the Union Chapel in London, at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Warwick Arts Centre in Coventry, and at Manchester's Royal Northern College of Music. Laurie also made several television appearances, including BBC2 programmes The Graham Norton Show and Later... with Jools Holland, and was interviewed on BBC Radio 2's Chris Evans Breakfast Show. On 15 May 2011 Laurie appeared in the UK ITV series Perspectives, explaining his love for the Music of New Orleans and playing music from the album, at studios and live venues in the city itself.
