I was a professional drummer from 1972 until 1995, at which time I semi-retired and built my own recording studios and I have never been busier or having so much fun in my life. I still work with most of the top musicians in the music business today; the majority of them are the most famous musician who ever performed on-stage and I am proud to have been a part that era and I continue to work and talk with them and we are all still good friends. To see a list of the musicians I have worked with, click on CLIENTS on the Main Menu tab.
I have had hundreds of young drummers e-mail and ask me to post a picture of my drum-kit on the website. I apologize for it not being a very clear picture, but Susan and I looked for hours through my pictures and could not find anything that showed the drum kit any better. I have been playing this drum kit since 1971. The lights that you see around the drum cage are actually attached to the drum cage ( a lot of lights) but there were a ton of staging lights for the band also. And speaking of drum cage, I have been told this was the first drum kit to be setup in a cage, so a first. The drum kit consists of a snare, hi-hat, 8 Roto Toms, 8 Mounted Toms, 2 Floor Toms, Two Kick Drums and 12 Cymbals and I play left-handed. The unique thing about this drum kit is back in the early 1970's, all my drums had mics permanently mounted and installed in them. This was given to me by Shure. I never really thought a lot about this until one day a month or so after they were installed, someone asked me where I got all those tiny mics attached to my drums. Then I said it was an experimental project I was working on with Shure, another first. Also another thing I did back in the early 1970s that was not heard of at that time was, I used a drum monitor system. It was very large and consisted of one 18" bottom, one 12'' Low-Mid and a 10' high-mid with a 2" horn. Although I know the system was driven by two (2) amplifiers, I cannot remember the brand name, but I do remember the system was loud even though I really did not hear the drums that well because I wore ear protectors, but I could feel the drums and that was all I needed and wanted. It was great and after that all drummers had to have their own monitor system, another first. If you look at the top of the cage closely and follow the top bar, you can see how large the drum kit was. As you can see it was a very large drum kit and took up a lot of room. Including the cage, I think it was 20' X 25'. I had two very good friends who toured with me as my drum techs, Mark and David. They setup and broke down the drum kit, kept the drums perfectly tuned, replaced the drum heads every couple of days, polished the cymbals before packing the kit up for the night and much more. I would like to say to Mark and David, as I have said to them many times over the years, THANK YOU!
