Diane Bailey Website
Diane Bailey was born and raised near the small town of Zebulon, NC but now calls Garner, NC home, which is a suburb of Raleigh. Diane moved to Garner from Sunset Beach, SC where she performed at the Eddie Miles Theatre six nights a week for seven years with sell-out crowds every night.
Diane came from a musical family. Her mom Dolly and her father Wilson were singing long before Diane was born. They played package shows with some of the legends of the 40’s and 50’s such as Chet Atkins, Sonny James, Little Jimmy Dickens, and the Carter Family.
Diane’s singing career began at the young age of three when she recorded her first record “Hey Good Looking” and “Wandering”. At the age of 5 she was a regular on a local TV show called ‘Saturday Night Country Style’. Diane was so small she had to stand on a bale of hay to reach the microphone. This same show helped launched the careers of George Hamilton IV, and guitarist Jimmy Capps who has been a staff musician on the Grand Ole Opry for over 30 years.
Winning a talent contest at age 8 entitled Diane and her parents to travel to Nashville and earn a spot on Ernest Tubb’s ‘Midnight Jamboree’ and a special guest performance at the Grand Ole Opry, which was also known as the Ryman Auditorium. Diane remembers being carried on stage by the late great Marty Robbins.
Diane continued to sing, write and record and in 1961 at the age of 10, she made another record entitled “Give Me Your Heart for Christmas” for Renown Records which was a major record label. To promote her new record, Diane performed on Dick Clark’s “American Bandstand”. At the same time, she had a recording contract with ‘Choice’ records in Charlotte, NC. owned by Arthur Smith and performed regularly on his TV show. Diane has also had the honor of performing with such great artists as Porter Wagner, Ray Price, Hawk Shaw Hawkins, Jean Sheppard, and the wonderful Patsy Cline.
The highlight of Diane’s career came in April of 2000 when she was asked to play the part of Patsy Cline in Ted Swindley’s “Always Patsy Cline”. The musical production ran for four weeks in Charleston, SC at the Midtown Theater. The show was held over for an additional week because of sold-out audiences. Critics from newspapers from all across the country quoted that Diane’s voice was uncanningly like Patsy’s herself and when Diane stepped into Patsy’s character, it was unbelievable. Diane says it was such an honor to play the role of her idol, Patsy Cline.
With the new year of 2001 brought a new production for Diane. With a lot of research, she wrote, directed, produced and performed her own musical “Sweet Dreams Again, Remembering the Lady Legends”. This 2 hour musical production is now headed for its 8th year and still selling out auditoriums and theatres all across the US. Diane will take you from the 50’s thru the 90’s with the music from the greatest lady legends of our time; songs from Brenda Lee, Kitty Wells, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette, Celine Dion and Patsy Cline to mention a few. This musical production will take you for an intimate stroll down memory lane and you are sure to have “SWEET DREAMS AGAIN and AGAIN”!!!!!
